We tested five entry-level UV-Vis systems (Thermo Genesys 50, Shimadzu UV-1900i, Biochrom Libra S80, Jenway 7305, Mettler Toledo UV5) for wavelength accuracy, photometric accuracy, stray light, and scan speed. Shimadzu UV-1900i won on performance with best wavelength accuracy (±0.1 nm). Biochrom Libra S80 offered best value at ~60% of Shimadzu price — our pick for teaching labs.
